Periodically Report 2023

First of all, like every year, we wish you a very chemical 2024. May all your scientific wishes get what they deserve. Now to business.

Like every year we are going to donate 1 USD to education projects for each science and chemistry product you bought at the Molecule Store in 2023.

Now to the very complicated math: last year we sold 674 pieces of science and chemistry t-shirts and jewelry. That makes a 674 USD donation to CO-OPERAID. đŸ„ł

Now to our strongest sellers this year. As usual, our most sold molecule ring was the Serotonin + Dopamine Molecule Ring. It’s not surprising as this neurotransmitter molecule ring is simply beautiful.

Our most sold science necklace is our Anatomical Heart Necklace – simply nerdy and beautiful. And on sale at the moment!

Anatomical heart necklace in rose gold.

In the category “science sweatshirts”, the winner is our Chemistree Ugly Christmas Sweater Unisex, of course. This marvel of ugly sweater design is a huge success at any laboratory or science department Christmas party!

And last but not least our science-themed t-shirts. We had two very strong contenders, it’s the Physics Gang Sign T-Shirt and the biologically rocking AT/GC DNA T-Shirt.

Physics gang sign t-shirt.

Biology, physics, chemistry, and biochemistry; that’s not bad. We hope to get some math and engineering in the mix soon.

Happy Chemistry

New Science Joke T-ShirtsïżŒ

Here at the Molecule Store we are trying hard to be the number one place to buy science joke t-shirts. Simply because we love science jokes and science memes and we think they are a great way of spreading science education, which is the core mission of Molecule Store. In that spirit, we present you with 6 new science joke t-shirts!

Binary Code T-Shirts

We have 2 new binary code t-shirts in stock, the first one is a t-shirt with “NERD” spelled in binary, and the second one says “FUCK YOU!” (very mature) in binary.

We like computer science and are open to new suggestions for computer science jokes t-shirts. You can also suggest any binary code word t-shirt you want and we will add it to our collection.

A binary code t-shirt saying “NERD” twice in a way

This Is How I Roll T-Shirt

Our first physics joke t-shirt features a rolling resistance figure explaining how a body rolls on a surface – because this is how we roll!
This t-shirt says I am a huge physics nerd but in a kind of cool way and is very sciency.

A t-shirt with a print that says "THIS IS HOW I ROLL" with a figure depicting rolling resistance.
This is how I roll science meme t-shirt, nice!

Physics Gang Sign T-Shirt

The next science meme t-shirt in line is our physics gang sign (right-hand rule) t-shirt. We simply put the right-hand rule a gang sign common amongst physicists on a t-shirt and voilĂ  – you have a nerdy and awesome t-shirt. The right-hand rule is used as a mnemonic to find many three-dimensional space things like the Lorentz force or current direction in a wire. Read more about this gang sign on Wikipedia.

A pretty cool science meme t-shirt, right?

Watt is Love T-Shirt

This science meme t-shirt is the international dance hit “What Is Love” by Haddaway from 1993 recreated with science all-stars! One of the best science jokes on the internet.
The song goes like this:

Watt is love?

Baby, don’t Hertz me

Don’t Hertz me

no Morse

Featuring the heads of James Watt, Heinrich Rudolf Hertz, and Samuel Finley Breese Morse. The best science meme t-shirt you can buy for money ever, period.

The “Watt is Love?” t-shirt is a thing of beauty.

Research T-Shirt

Last but not least we have our new t-shirt about research. This science joke t-shirt simply says: “If I knew what I was doing, it wouldn’t be called RESEARCH”
The quote “If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it?” gets attributed to Albert Einstein, like so many quotes. Our version “If I knew what I was doing, it wouldn’t be called research” is a bit shorter and easier on the eyes.
A must-have for anybody working and researching for their thesis, be it, Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D.!

Awesome shirt you got there!

Our Mission

As we wrote about in our last blog post, last year we spend some time thinking about the future of Molecule Store and our science & molecule jewelry and t-shirts.
The first resulting step was changing how we make and sell things. The second step is trying to define our mission which we getting to now. You can find a short version of this post here.

Our mission consists of two parts:

  1. Education for Children
  2. Education through thoughtful science & chemistry products

Education for children

We believe every child should have the possibility to reach her maximum potential impact in this world. We believe that by giving everybody access to education we will get to a much better world. That is why we give away 1 USD for each product we sell at the Molecule Store.

In the past, we tried different projects, but we have now settled on one which does pretty much exactly what we had envisioned. The project is called CO-OPERAID and they make education possible for children and youth in low developed regions in Asia and Africa. CO-OPERAID is committed to ensuring these children’s right to education.
So anytime you order a science joke t-shirt or a molecule ring from Molecule Store you are helping a youngster to get a small piece of education. Last year we have been able to collect 2’561 USD, which for the second time went to CO-OPERAID.

A big point of emphasis for CO-OPERIAD is the sustainability of their projects. We are helping them to continue and establish projects for schools in Uganda, Kenya, Bangladesh, Cambodia, and more. They also award scholarships to talented youth to enter and complete their higher education. A year ago we first introduced you to them and were able to donate 2’248 USD. Now we have joined forces.

A school in Asia supported by our education mission.

CO-OPERAID stands for this: All children should have the opportunity to learn, play and develop their talents. Education is a basic requirement for the development of individuals and society as a whole, as it enables children to live independent and self-determined lives.

CO-OPERAID …

  • is committed to children’s right to education.
  • realizes cooperative aid projects.
  • sponsors holistic aid projects.
  • is a non-profit organization with many years of experience.

Education through science & chemistry products

The second thing we are trying to achieve is to get as many people as possible interested in the beauty of chemistry and science. That is why we are creating science and chemistry-inspired jewelry, t-shirt, and accessories. This way you can take a little science anywhere you go and help yourself and others to stay or get curious about this universe and its secrets we are trying to figure out with the help of science.
C’mon, everybody needs a periodic table towel in their life!

Happy Chemistry!

Why we switched to On-Demand

A periodic table mug getting prepared for sublimation.
Our periodic table mug getting ready for sublimation.

Until December of 2021, we sold products like plated molecule jewelry that we made in bulk in China and then shipped worldwide from Switzerland. For 2022 we re-examined our business and asked ourselves: what do we really want to do with Molecule Store? What do we want the brand Molecule Store to stand for? Cheap China-made chemistry jewelry?
The decision was then reached, that we want to stand for sustainable, great quality, very very nerdy science jewelry, and t-shirts.
That’s why we now make almost every product we sell on-demand. This way we can reduce waste, have a great quantity of different high-quality products made much closer to you (printed in Europe, UK, USA, etc.). This also reduces shipping distances, and we are still able to offer you great value for your hard-earned money.

In short: great for nerds like you, great for nerds like us, awesome for the environment!

We used the change to better quality jewelry and refreshed our best-sellers like our serotonin molecule ear climbers. Now you can get a variety of molecule ear climbers, like DNA, oxytocin, serotonin, and dopamine, which you can now mix and match. Check it out: new serotonin and dopamine ear climbers

A DNA double helix ear climber, part of the new refreshed science jewelry collection at Molecule Store
Our new DNA ear climber, part of the refreshed science jewelry collection.

You can read more about why we changed to made on-demand at Molecule Store.

Our product line now includes Science jewelry (rings, necklaces, earrings, and ear climbers), science jokes and molecule clothing (t-shirts, hoodies, leggings), and periodic table accessories like tapestries, and clocks, towels, etc.

You might now ask: “Science jewelry made on-demand, how does that work?”
We have spared no efforts to give you an insight into how we make our products:

How we make our science jewelry on demand

  1. Your science design is printed in wax using a specialized high-resolution 3D printer.
  2. This wax model is put in a container where liquid plaster is poured around it. When the plaster sets, the wax is melted out in a furnace, and the remaining plaster becomes the mold.
  3. The metal of your choice will now get molten, poured into the mold, and set to harden.
  4. The plaster is broken away, revealing your new science jewelry. The piece is then carefully cleaned and hand-polished. If you have ordered something in plated brass, then your piece will get electroplated with 0.25 microns of gold.

How we make our science t-shirts on demand

Our science t-shirts, mugs, leggings, etc. get made by employing a variety of printing and methods. So if you order your periodic table clock or your periodic table leggings, we first print the periodic table on paper (clock) or sublimate the fabric (leggings),
then we cut and sew the leggings, the clock gets assembled.
For our chemistry and science t-shirts, we use Direct-to-Garment (DTG) printing technology. This way we can print directly onto the t-shirt using environmentally friendly water-based inks.
All the ink we use for our science apparel is Oeko-Texℱ certified, which means they are safe to print on children’s clothing and reduce environmental waste.

Molecule Store Report 2021

2021 is finally over!

Like every year, we collected 1 USD for each chemistry and science product we sold during last year.

Thanks to you we managed to sell 2’561 pieces of science t-shirts and molecule jewelry. Which is 14% more than we sold in 2020. Thank you! That makes 2’561 USD available for science education projects! đŸ„ł

Now we need your help in picking the best charity with a science education background. Please send us your favorite charity via email to thc@moleculestore.com or via comment on this Instagram post. We will then later have a public vote on where the money goes to.

DNA ring
Our DNA plasmid ring, stunning right?

This year’s best seller was our DNA Double Helix Ring, which we now have available 3D printed, which looks both stunning and realistic.

The second best seller was our Serotonin + Dopamine Molecule Ring.

Serotonin + dopamine molecule ring
Everybody needs these two essential neurotransmitter molecules in one ring: serotonin and dopamine.

Honorable mention goes to our Oxytocin Molecule Necklace, which simply is a beautiful and lovely molecule (pun intended).

Starting now, we only make our products on demand and as close to you as possible. That’s how we reduce shipping distances and waste. Be it chemistry jewelry (3D printing) or science t-shirts (direct to garment) bot made in the US and EU. This way we can make sure we are working as sustainably as possible while providing you with the best quality available.

Yay environment! đŸŒ±đŸŒŽ
